Researcher

PhD in Urbanism from the Universitat Politácnica de Catalunya—BarcelonaTech, MSc in Urban Planning, Cornell University and Sociologist of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. He is an associate professor at the Institute of Sociology of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile and Principal Researcher of CIGIDEN, where he leads the research line “Disaster Cultures and Risk Governance”, studying the relationship between politics, knowledge and geoclimatic disruptions.
It is currently conducting research on the connections between indigenous knowledge and volcanic risk in northern Chile, and on forms of activism in the context of slow disasters. Manuel is also researching the political affordances of geophysical knowledge practices to act and think about the Anthropoccene.
