Ricardo Rivas

Postdoctoral researcher at COES-CIGIDEN. Sociologist graduated from the University of Concepción and Master in Human Development from the University of La Frontera. After having worked on several projects related to the fishing sector in Chile, he obtained his Doctor of Sociology degree from the University of Arizona (USA). He is also an associate researcher at the Center for Research in Communication, Discourse and Power of the University of La Frontera and an associate researcher for the Interdisciplinary Center for Aquaculture Research (INCAR).

His research team is at the intersection between social stratification, international political economy and the sociology of the environment. His main interest is in the effects of economic globalization on environmental conflicts and natural hazards that affect local communities. He has studied the change in environmental governance in relation to the salmon industry in Chile after the ISA virus crisis in 2007.
