Rodrigo Cienfuegos

Doctor and master in Earth Sciences from the University of Grenoble (France), and Hydraulic Civil Engineer of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. Director of CIGIDEN and principal investigator of Line 2 «Threats by surface water processes», and of Fondecyt and Fondef projects of Conicyt and Corfo. He has led collaborative projects with French universities through the Ecos-Conicyt program, and with the United States thanks to the support of the U.S. Office of Naval Research (ONRG).

He currently serves as director of the Collaborative Disaster Risk Management Research Center (CIGIDEN) funded by Conicyt’s Fondap Centres of Excellence program and was in charge of the scientific coordination of the joint tsunami risk mitigation research effort between the governments of Chile and Japan, with the support of the Japan Cooperation Agencies (JICA) and Science and Technology (JST) between 2012 and 2016 ( SATREPS project «Improving technology for the development of resilient communities in the face of tsunamis»).

It develops research in hydrodynamic swell and tsunami processes, risk assessment and disaster mitigation of natural origin. He has published more than 40 articles in indexed journals, and made more than 100 presentations at conferences or workshops.
