Characterizing active Faulting and Crustal Seismic Hazard Analysis to detect and prevent societal impact and build resilience
The Research Center for Integrated Disaster Risk Management (CIGIDEN www.cigiden.cl) has opened a new full-time post-doc position focused on crustal faulting and the linked seismic hazard assessment to detect and prevent societal impact and build resilience.
CIGIDEN is a multidisciplinary research center funded by ANID with research teams located in Santiago, Valparaíso, Antofagasta, and Concepción. CIGIDEN brings together researchers from various fields, including Sociology, Urban Studies, Urban Planning, Geography, Psychology, Engineering, and Geosciences, and is supported by the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, the Universidad Nacional Andrés Bello, the Universidad Católica del Norte and the Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María. The Center is hosted at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile,
CIGIDEN is seeking a highly motivated and innovative researcher from the field of Earth Surface Geology to better understand active faulting and associated seismic hazard, starting in January 2023. The Postdoctoral researcher will work on data collection and data processing to develop integrated studies based on field observations and models. Therefore, the ability to communicate results to researchers from other disciplinary lines is highly required. The selected researcher will also be required to generate scientific publications in high impact peer reviewed journals. The position would be guaranteed for 10 to 24 months years pending funding approval and an internal evaluation.
The candidate must hold a PhD in an area related to active tectonics and paleoseismology. Computation and computer assisting data processing is also necessary. Previous work experience shall be demonstrated through publications in international indexed journals.
The candidate should be fluent in English.
Minimum expected achievements to allocate a 2nd year postdoctoral funding from CIGIDEN:
At the end of the first year, postdoctoral fellows should have submitted at least one paper to an indexed international journal, and a research proposal to the CONICYT Postdoctoral program.
The call is open between 2022 December 12th and 31th, and the starting date should ideally be January 2023. The duration of the position is for a minimum of 10 months.
Successful applicants will be appointed by CIGIDEN at the Universidad Católica del Norte and will reside in Antofagasta, Chile, where they will receive a gross stipend of 1.800.000 CLP per month. To apply, please send your letter of intent/motivation, a research proposal, an extended CV with a full digital archive of published ISI papers, and two letters of recommendation to Gabriel González with the entitled subject “CIGIDEN Postdoctoral Application”.
